The Tabernacle was built in October of 1890, 25 years after the cornerstones were laid by Brigham Young and Jesse Fox. In 1896, a furnace fire burned everything to the ground except the Tabernacle's stone walls. Over the next year, it would be rebuilt in its distinctive gothic-revival architecture.
