10.5 Miles West of Parowan, Utah
Parowan Gap known as "God's Own House" by native peoples. Parowan Gap
is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Many groups have partnered with the BLM to work toward the
preservation of the site.
The walls of the narrows at Parowan Gap are covered with thousands
of petroglyphs. Many of the petroglyphs are related to astronomical
events such as the cycles of the Sun, Moon and Venus.
A group of students and instructors from UVU are working to produce
a ten minute educational video to educate the public on the unique value
of the Parowan Gap archaeological site and surrounding areas.
In the years before the pioneers arived, the area was surrounded by shallow
lakes and marsh lands. These wetlands were teeming with plant and wild life
which supplied the ancient inhabitants with an abundance of food.
