Heber Second Ward Meeting House/St. Lawrence Catholic Church

This building is made of red brick with a sandstone foundation. It replaces the original building, a Methodist church that was moved off the property and relocated to the Center Creek area. The Heber Second Ward was one of the ecclesiastical divisions of the Wasatch Stake of the LDS Church.

Construction on the church began in the fall of 1913. The new bishop of the ward, Joseph A. Rasband, recruited a group of men, wagon and teams to go to the Strawberry valley to cut lumber for the church. The Second Ward was completed two years later. It was dedicated on Dec. 26, 1915. The ward financial report recorded the building with furnishings cost $19,415.74.

Its central feature is the magnificent stained glass window in front. The design was altered when the building was acquired by the Catholic diocese. The stained glass windows on the east and west sides of the building were installed in the 1980’s. The architecture is reminiscent of the Gothic style cathedrals. It is presently the Saint Lawrence Catholic Church and is home to the offices of Holy Cross Ministries.
